Some customers have inquired recently about the ability to purchase Act! Premium perpetual licenses, so we wanted to provide a quick reminder about this policy. In May of 2015 Swiftpage switched Act! Premium from a capital purchase product to a subscription based service, and then later in January 2019 it was announced that Act! Premium would only be sold on a subscription basis.

During renewals in 2019 and into 2020, subscription customers could purchase “Off Plan/Non Subscription Licenses” at the end of their subscription if they elected not to renew, at a cost of 2.5x the annual subscription price. As of the start of 2021, this offer is no longer available. It should be noted that Act! was one of the last CRM vendors to still offer perpetual licensing, but with the advent of API services like Act! Marketing Automation, Dynamic Dashboards, Insights Reporting, and Companion, along with a host of powerful API add-ons like Linktivity products, Webplanner, Act4mail, Opt-in Manager, and Handheld Contact, it no longer made sense to support a platform that was incompatible with this technology.

Also the rate of change in the software that Act! integrates with (namely MS Office, Windows, SQL, and Microsoft & Google browsers), made it impractical to sell perpetual licenses of products that Swiftpage was no longer supporting or updating. Anyone using legacy versions of Act! Premium can continue to do so without interuption, but it will not be a setup that supports team growth moving forward. Act! firmly believes that a subscription model best supports our customer's business growth, and that is where they've chosen to invest. These considerations also led Swiftpage's to discontinue the sale of Act! Pro last summer, which was also a perpetual license CRM product.
