Keystroke Dash Manual

Keystroke Dash is the easy-to-use real-time dashboard reporting tool for Act! that is powerful and highly flexible. The new v11 has been completely rewritten for better performance, improved query builder, and pop-out Dash with auto-refresh.

New Feature list:

  • Rewritten from VB to C#. Faster and better memory management.
  • Dash data can now be viewed in a separate window from Act, allowing for simultaneous Dash and Act! access.
  • No longer uses the problematic OLEDB Views, instead uses the standard SQL tables
  • Email a single dash report directly from that panel.
  • Activities/Contacts that were broken by Act several versions ago, now work correctly
  • Query Builder - The opportunity Status field can now be queried.
  • Field selection in Query Builder now has Double Arrows, allowing users to move all fields from all entities at once.
  • Query Builder now has dropdowns for open and close parenthesis.
  • Printing to Excel now supports XLSX format, rather than just CSV format.
  • Query Builder - Add and Delete buttons, for easier adding and deleting of query rows.
  • All new icons across the program to modernize UI

Downloading the Installer

If you have a previous version of Keystroke Dash installed, you must first uninstall it using Add/Remove from the Control Panel.

Direct your web browser to www.act4work.com/files/Dash/ download the latest version. After the software has been installed, you will see additional menu items in ACT!.

Launching Keystroke Dash

When Keystroke Dash is properly installed, Keystroke Dash will be added to the Navbar. Depending on your screen size, it will appear either as a menu entry or a button. Clicking on Dash will allow you to start the Wizard. The Keystroke Dash Screen contains starting sections:

  1. Keystroke Dash Menus
  2. Wizard
  3. Row and Column buttons
  4. Dashboard Tabs

The bottom of the Keystroke Dash screen displays all the Keystroke Dash files found in the current dashboard location. Keystroke Dash will allocate as much space as necessary to display all the files. The name of the tab reflects the actual file name of the Keystroke Dash dashboard.

Changing Dashboard Title

The Keystroke Dash dashboard title is displayed in the upper left corner of the Keystroke Dash screen. This dashboard title is independent of the Keystroke Dash filename, shown in the Dashboard Tabs below. To change the Keystroke Dash Title, double-click on the title, enter the desired name, and save:

Panel Wizard

To create a new blank Keystroke Dash dashboard, use the New Button from the Dash toolbar.

Start the Wizard. You will be offered different types of queries for Act! Tables, including custom tables.

As you open the Query box, available fields will be browsable from the ‘Field’ dropdown menu. ‘Operator’ and ‘Value’ dropdowns will adjust to the type of the field selected.

In the most recent version of Dash, it is possible to copy a set of formulated criteria and reuse them with just a small adjustment in a complex query. You can use Shift key & Arrow icon to highlight the criteria you would like to duplicate:

Once the criteria is duplicated, you can make quick adjustments by selecting different values in the copied lines.

Display Settings

The results of the query can be presented in three main ways:

  • Graph
  • List
  • KPI Each type will allow you to change the panel title by double-clicking it.

Graph

The Graph view displays data in graphical format. There are 5 graph styles to choose from:

  • Bar Graph
  • Pie Graph
  • Line Graph
  • Funnel Graph

X-AXIS

Determine what should be displayed on the X-Axis (and Legend Box) with the Category Field. All fields in related objects are available. Graph more than one item with the Group Field.

Y-AXIS

Determine what should be displayed on the Y-Axis. By default, it is a count of records, but it can be changed to a Sum or Average of any.

LEGEND POSITION

The Legend can be placed at the bottom or right side of the graph.

TARGET

A target line can be placed on the graph (for Bar and Line graphs) for any value and be assigned any color

OPTIONS
  • Smart Breaks can assist in displaying a graph where the range of data is very wide.
  • Show Values will display numeric values on the graph.
  • Use 3D will attempt to render the graph in 3D.

Data in the dashboard can be sorted by values in one field (or column).

For example, if you decide to group your monthly activities by Activity type, the results will appear as follows:

KPI (KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS)

KPI Panel Wizard will allow you to select between Simple and Complex KPI. Simple KPI uses one field which then appears in the left column, and complex uses two – one appearing in the top row, the other in the left column.

The displayed results can be counted or can have another function performed on one of available numeric fields. While SUM is used most frequently, Average, Min, and Max are available as well.
