Looking for a few good resolutions that have nothing to do with diet, exercise, or love? One or more of these will actually make you money!

10.  I’ll learn how to segment my database so I stop blasting everyone on my email list (annoying!) and begin matching the right message to the right customer.

9.  I will publish my e-newsletter at least once a month. I will spring for a professional email service like Constant Contact, Exact Target or Swiftpage so I comply with CAN-SPAM laws. I’ll handcuff a staff member to a chair until he/she learns how to use this software. If I can’t find a staff member to handcuff, I’ll hire someone to help me, knowing that if I pay for it, I’ll really commit to following through and staying in touch with my list next year.



8.  Companies that excel at lead nurturing generate 50% more sales ready leads at 33% lower cost.  [Forrester Research] So I will learn how to launch my first lead-nurturing, drip marketing campaign to plug up a hole in my sales process where hot leads have previously gone to die.

7. I will think about how to add value to my relationships with clients and prospects. Not be “that” guy or gal who is always trying to sell my next big thing. My motto: “I’m here to help my buyer buy, not help me, the seller, sell.”

6. Approximately 35-50% of sales go to the vendor who responds first. [Source: InsideSales.com] So I’ll connect my website submission forms to my database so my sales team can follow up instantly (and won’t have to suffer the agony of double entry).

5. I will send out at least 1 online customer survey to collect self-reported database updates, discover new prospects, grade my customer service and collect testimonials.

4. I will learn how to leverage the benefits of Hummingbird, the new Google algorythm change, to position myself as the go-to expert in my field and drive more visitors to my website.

3.  I know selecting business technology is strategic; I must pick the right website, CRM and marketing automation tools to accelerate company profits or risk getting saddled with inefficient, too complicated processes that will be too expensive to “do-over.” If I don’t know what I don’t know,  I will ask for help - and not feel like I should be expert in a world that changes every 72 hours.

2.  Grant me the serenity to know I may not be able to outspend my competition, but I can outsmart and out-listen them when it comes to my customers.

1.  I know the half life of a business model isn’t what it used to be, and that everything is hard before it is easy. Since I realize I won’t live long enough to figure it all out on my own, I’ll hire someone to help me achieve my financial and marketing goals over the next 12 months.
