As some of you may have noticed in our last newsletter, there is a price increase scheduled for May 1st on Act! Subscriptions (click HERE to learn more about the price change). For customers already on Act! Subscription, this small price increase is not consequential, but if you're still using Act! and have not migrated to subscription yet, this will affect you, so please take note.

When Swiftpage introduced subscription pricing for Act back in May of 2015, they implemented monthly and annual means of payment. Customers that elected to pay annually were rewarded with two of their twelve months of subscription free of charge. For those choosing to pay monthly, they were billed a set amount each month, which typically amounted to 20% more by year's end.

On May 1st, that is going to change. On that date, Swiftpage will be ending new monthly subscriptions, leaving only the annual payment option available for new subscribers.  As you might guess, with monthlies gone, there will cease to be a need to incentivise the selection of annual prepayment, so the two-month reward will end after this month. If you’re already on a subscription plan, don’t be concerned. Current monthly subscribers will continue to pay monthly, and annual subscribers will still enjoy their two-month discount with on-time renewals. New customers, on the other hand, will be subject to the new payment policies as of May 1st.


What does this mean to you?


Well, if you upgrade to Act Subscription this month (April), you will be grandfathered under the current "Loyalty" pricing system, and save 17% year after year on your Act! Subscription fee, as long as your subscription is active. If you wait, you won’t. Those upgrading after May 1st will be subject to the new pricing system, which will be - at a minimum - 20% more than what is available this month.

The only constant in software is change
If you continue using Act!, for one reason or another you will need or want to upgrade to a current version for compatibility or new feature reasons. Setting aside the terrific new features set to be included with for Act! v20, consider the following compatibility scenarios:

  • If you purchase a new computer, or you’re forced to replace an old one, you may have trouble installing or using older versions of Act! on Windows 10.
  • If you stand pat, and don’t upgrade your Windows for years, you can run into a variety of security issues. In the last three years, Microsoft ended support for Windows XP, SQL 2005, and Windows Server 2003, leaving all systems fitted with them vulnerable to known Internet threats. Believe it or not, those using Windows Vista face this dilemma next week, as Microsoft is scheduled to end support for Vista on April 11th.
  • If nothing in your technical environment changes, but your team grows, you won’t be able to purchase additional licenses for legacy versions of Act! licenses
  • Swiftpage does not offer support for obsolete versions of Act!

Any of the above scenarios can compel you to upgrade, and this can lead to unplanned business interruption and higher than necessary expenses if you delay. The time to Act! Is now!
